At Queen Creek Reflexology we have a commitment to our customers to bring a quality and level of service above anyone else. We know that everyone experiences stress in several different areas of our lives. Stress, whether physical or mental, can wear a body down making your daily life and routine difficult. Some questions you might have are:
What is reflexology? Reflexology, or zone therapy, is the physical practice of massaging, squeezing, or pushing on parts of the feet, or sometimes the hands and ears, with the goal of encouraging a beneficial effect on other parts of the body, or to improve general health. It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands with a premise that such work effects a physical change to the body. While others claim that the practice of reflexology can improve your general health we encourage all our clients to use reflexology as a compliment to your doctors treatment. Reflexology is a unique modality in the health field. Its purpose is not to treat or diagnose for any specific medical disorder, but to promote better health and well being in the same way as an exercise or diet program. Its practice should not be compared to massage or any other kind of manipulative procedure.
What should I expect from a QC Reflexology session? Complete relaxation! You are here to unwind and help your body strengthen and rejuvinate itself. As seen in the pictures we have a "Community Room". Chairs are separated by hanging dividers with two chairs per space. Our room is dimly lit and is painted in a warm earth tone color with varied hangings of art. Our sound system delivers a combination of nature and music designed to deliver a hearing sensory relaxation. Your reflexologist will begin by placing your feet in a foot tub of warm/hot water mixed with a Chinese herbal tea mix.
While your feet are soaking your upper body is placed in a 3/4 reclined position. Work begins on the forehead, side temples, ears and scalp. Two
freshly sliced cool cucumbers will be placed over your eyes with a towel lightly resting on top to help relax you and your mind. Your therapist will now start to work on your neck and shoulders to loosen those muscles that tighten up with stress. Next are the arm and hands. OK, here comes the best part.
Your FEET are taken out of the plastic lined bucket, dried and wrapped in a towel. While one foot remains wrapped the other is having pressure point reflexology applied. The application of lotion is to soothe the rubbing of the feet. Next are your calves up to the mid thigh region.
Your reflexologist will now ask you to turn your body over face down in the chair in a fully reclined possition. Our chairs are supplied with a built in face hole for added comfort. The rest of your session will focus on your upper and lower back, gluts and back legs. At the end you have the option to have a steamed face towel, please let us know if you would like one before your session at no additional cost to you.
Some bending and pulling will occur, so if you have any restrictions please let us know on our questionnaire. If you are in our computer system our data base keeps track of your visits and any notes you add to help make your next visit as good as the last! Now look, how in the world do expect us to sit here and paint a picture around our words? That is not going to happen, so do us this favor. Come on in and try it, we look forward to your visit and response! Also, review some of our customer testimonials at our feedback page!
What is the history of reflexology? Around the world and throughout history reflexology has been rediscovered and reinstated as a health practice time and time again by peoples around the globe seeking to deal with health concerns. Archeological evidence Egypt (2330 BCE), China (2704 BCE) and Japan (690 CE) points to ancient reflexology medical systems. In the West the concept of reflexology began to emerge in the 20th century, based on research into the nervous system and reflex. Reflexology was introduced to the United States in 1913 by William H. Fitzgerald, M.D. (1872-1942), an ear, nose and throat specialist, and Dr. Edwin Bowers. Fitzgerald claimed that applying pressure had an anesthetic effect on other areas of the body. Reflexology was further developed by Eunice D. Ingham (1899-1974), a nurse and physiotherapist, in the 1930s and 1940s. Ingham claimed that the feet and hands were especially sensitive, and mapped the entire body into "reflexes" on the feet. It was at this time that "zone therapy" was renamed to reflexology, and the number of conditions it was claimed to treat increased. Modern reflexologists in the United States and the United Kingdom often learn Ingham's method first, although there are other more recently developed methods.
How does reflexology work? Pressure sensors in the feet and hands are a part of the body's reflexive response that makes possible the "fight or flight" reaction to danger. Feet ready to flee and hands ready to fight communicate with the body's internal organs to make possible wither eventuality. The sudden adrenal surge that enables a person to lift a car is an example of this reaction. Reflexology taps into this reflex network, providing an exercise of pressure sensors and thus the internal organs to which they are inextricably tied.
Where do you apply technique? We apply techniques to the feet and hands. There is a school of thought that also applies it to the ear arguing it is also reflexology. The techniques, however, are modified from auricular therapy, an acupuncture technique. It could be argued that all bodywork is reflexive therefore reflexology. We find that the extremities have a powerful influence because of locomotion. While we acknowledge that repeated patterns exist throughout the body we find our most effective focus to be the feet and hands.
What type of clothing should I wear? Wear relaxed clothing. Shorts are preferred but if they are long pants all is well as long as they can roll up to the knees. Unlike other professional massage salons where clothing is removed for treatments like a Swedish Massage, at QC Reflexology your clothing remains on. The only thing bare in our reflexology room are your feet! OK, and the legs too.
